What’s Up?
I had a GREAT time at ShiMMer. Swag was collected, old friends were caught up, squee was squeed, and it turns out that Primark has a GF Victoria Sponge. Could a day get any better, I ask you?
I am, however, now KNACKERED. So it’s going to be a short, photo heavy newsletter this week!
Next big event is Paris in less than a month. Yay to the Salon, oof to packing again that soon. Dude, I might have to IRON this weekend. Luckily I have concealed all my swag in discrete corners of my friend’s house, so I only have to worry about then when we head for the train!
Check out the cool swag I got at ShiMMer!
Well, my murder notes were a gift from my friend Penny. But I got them on the same trip :D Aren’t they AWESOME?
I also have a gorgeous new notebook from the very talented Jay Aheer to use for writing related notes and doodlings. I have had to promise to use it even though my handwriting will bring shame and scunderment to its beauty.
I also intend to do an AMA on www.tamoorewrites.substack.com at the end of the week. It’s mostly to see if it will work! But do feel free to come back and ask questions, even if it is only to see as I somehow manage to burn down the entire site :D
Deal of the Week
Skin and Bone by TA Moore, the second book in the Bone to Pick series is a Bookbub Featured Deal in Feb! It will be 99-cents at all retailers until Feb 26. So check it out!
Recommendation of the Week
This is an awesome, witty, debut novel from a brilliant writer whose talent is only matched by a wonderful head of hair (full disclosure, I do know her and am joking about the hair :D). Big Girl Small Town is not to be missed!
A keenly-observed, darkly-comic story about a girl stuck in a very small town
I saw the book on the shelves in the wild at Foyles in Birmingham this weekend and told everyone to buy it *laughs*.
Must Read of the Week
I have never made a viral tweet. While occasionally funny, I do better in person where I can giggle my way through a joke instead of polishing all the fun out of it obsessively. So I’ve always wondered what it is like in the eye of that storm. Plus, this wasn’t even real to start with. It was just a well-crafted fraud, but how often do we question a fairly believable story that either entertains or infuriates us?
My 72 Hours in a Viral Tweet Vortex: A Diary
Last week, I did something a lot of people do every day: I tweeted out a joke. The joke in this case was a photo of a fake college English class essay I typed up about Tom and Jerry, then marked with frustrated red-pen notes and a D grade before tweeting it as though I were the professor at his wit’s end. To be clear, I’m not a college professor — I actually work in IT and am a comedian who performs in New York, presumably for other people who work in IT. But that didn’t stop thousands of people from seeing my tweet and assuming it was real.
ShiMMer and Birmingham Trip
Found the Birmingham competition for Kuro Jenkins from Rhys Ford’s Ramen Assassin series! It is a really cool wee food court in Bullring by the way, I can’t have ramen but I want to visit the Indian Street Food spot for some of their menu next time I am there (I mean, we were there for breakfast and I don’t think the menu spoke to that meal!).
Accidental selfie and another Irish Bar :b
