What’s Up?
I have high hopes that the rest of this year is going to Go Well. If it doesn’t, I’ll be wanting to speak to the manager. I definitely asked for a gluten-free good 2020 when I sat down, so I expect to get one!
First of all. Whoot to ME! I placed in a few categories in the Paranormal Romance Guild Reviewers Choice Awards alongside some brilliant other authors. Go and check it out! And thank you to everyone who nominated or voted for me. I really appreciate it.
My new novel Prodigal, the first book in the Lost and Found series, is coming out on Feb 13. The blog tour starts this Thursday and includes a short story and some gift cards to be won.
Oh, and I have the signing times for the Salon du Livre in March. I’ll be signing at both the MXM Bookmark stand and at Juno Books. Come and say hi, I will have swag, an accent, and books! The always wonderful Bru Baker and Andi Lee will also be at the Salon with me, along with Kim Fielding, Shira Anthony, and lots of other authors. I have no idea what their times are though :D. I can barely be held responsible for my own schedule!
Oh, and the second chapter of my EXTREMELY SELF-INDULGENT short story—powered almost entirely by life long cry of ‘I do what I like!’ - about lobster shifters is up now: Roll With It.
Book Recommendation of the Week
This looks so cool. I love a good secret society school plot! Call me weak :D.
Superordinary Society: Book Two
Even as a baby mage, Dash Mercury dreamed of going to Arcantaria, the barely whispered about school for superwizards. When he’s invited at eighteen, making him the youngest student in Arcantaria history, Dash is less excited because he has to leave behind the only good friends he’s ever had—Carla, BeBop, Khadija, Fatima, and most of all, the guy he loves, werewolf mage Jazz Vanessen. At Arcantaria, the other students treat Dash like dirt until he manages to join the exclusive Olympus Club… a group with an agenda. A scary one.
No one—not even the students—knows where Arcantaria is located, so Jazz is desperate when he picks up danger vibes from Dash. He and his friends set out to find the school and break in. When they realize what the club is training Dash to do—and the dire consequences if he succeeds—they know the human race is in danger, and they’ll have to step up and save it.
But first they have to save themselves.
Yeah, that would be a red flag for me. It’s a chicken wing! How frustrating would be to try and eat it with a knife and fork?
Deal of the Week
I mean, I think this is a fascinating low-tech/high-tech hack. It’s probably LESS fascinating if you’re the one that’s stuck detouring around imaginary traffic. Or well, technically the traffic is real I guess. It’s just smaller than the car navigation system thinks.
Must Read of the Week
OK, nothing to do with Batman. I just love that panel. ‘Bees. My god.’ This is actually a really cool at what it’s like to be a bee. It’s something I am kind of fascinated with. When I was a kid I read a book about…a little girl? who was shrunk down tiny and went to live with bees who she could talk to. There was a wasp attack. It was all very tragic for the bees. Every since I’m a sucker for bee books, I pestered people to read The Bees by Laline Paul.
What Is It Like to Be a Bee?
A philosophical and neurobiological look into the apian mind.
You’re a honeybee. Despite being around 700,000 times smaller than the average human, you’ve got more of almost everything. Instead of four articulated limbs, you have six, each with six segments. (Your bee’s knees, sadly, don’t exist.) You’re exceptionally hairy. A shock of bristly setae covers your body and face to help you keep warm, collect pollen, and even detect movement. Your straw-like tongue stretches far beyond the end of your jaw, but has no taste buds on it. Instead, you “taste” with other, specialized hairs, called sensillae, that you use to sense the chemicals that brush against particular parts of your body.
I love this. It’s so pretty!
I watched the last episode of The Good Place this week. This season didn’t quite live up to previous, free-wheeling, chaos-brilliant seasons, but it was still really good. I will miss it, but I look forward to seeing the actors in EVERYTHING now!
