What’s Up?
Would anyone believe me if I claimed I was like the Binmen, and after a bank holiday I ran a day late to catch up?
No?
Harsh, but fair. Sorry about the blip, but I’ve been putting the finishing touches on Shiftless and the blog tour and all the associated admin. Almost all done! Add in some personal life admin (running my mum to the SSE Arena for her second jab!) and things got on top of me a bit.
I’m here now though!
News, news, news?
First up! The Shiftless Blog Tour will be coming to a blog near you very soon! I’ve written a short story to accompany the tour, and you will also have a chance to win prizes!
I will also be virtually appearing (best efforts anyhow!) at Fujocon between JUNE 11-13, 2021. I’m down to do two panels and a roundtable, so don’t miss it. There may be an appearance from the Writing Staffie!
Pupdate of the Week
Took a trip up to Belfast with Jax today and had a mooch around the Titanic Quarter. I did consider going into the Dock Cafe, an honesty cafe that does a cracking cup of coffee, with Jax since it’s dog friendly. However, the logistics of making sure Jax was well-mannered, ordering coffee, and then carrying coffee back outside to a table seemed….impractical.
Army of the Dead on Netflix was a bit hit and miss for me. However, the opening credits are the BEST!
Shout-Out of the Week
First of all, no book that harks back to the AWESOME The Ghost and Mrs Muir could be anything but awesome. On top of that, though, this novel by Felice Stevens just won a Lammy! So go. Check it out!
Ghosts! Romance! Mystery! What more could you want?
Bad enough the big old house Charlie Muir inherits is next door to Ian Gregg, the most gorgeous guy he’s ever seen—it also happens to be occupied by Rachel, the ghost who keeps running off his dates. It’s impossible to get any loving when the bed starts shaking…and not because you’re having fun in it.
When Ian helps Charlie search for the source of strange noises in his house, they stumble upon a stack of photographs hiding century-old secrets. Curious of the friendship between the two men pictured, Charlie and Ian set off to solve the mystery of their relationship. With the help of the meddling ghost, a magical mirror, and a way too Smart TV, they find answers…and more.
And as things heat up between Charlie and Ian, they begin to wonder if Rachel's meddling has gone too far.
Doesn’t Rachel know Ian is straight?
Or is he?
That kiss they shared the other night sure didn't seem like it.
Or the one after that…
Oh, this is neat! I already have my next tattoo designed (it’s a circle! hahahaha), so not for me. But cool!
Must Read of the Week
…to be absolutely honest, I have had my nose to the grindstone all week. So I’ve bookmarked nothing I’ve read of note.
Umm, apparently NFTs have imploded? Which makes me feel better about giving up on my quest to understand them well enough to make conversation about it. Not like we’ve been having dinner parties where I might have to beadily stare down someone intent on condescending to me, right?
As far as I can tell from Twitter NFTs were the unfortunate byblow of money laundering and a grift, and once the launderers had wrung it die the whole thing fell in on itself. Interestingly enough, one theory I read was that NFTs were a direct result of the pandemic. The fine art market had gone to ground due to lock-downs and all, so the launderers had to find SOME nice soapy account to pass their grubby bills through.
The NFT market bubble has popped and we’ve got the charts to prove it
The NFT market has imploded over the past month, with sales in every single category almost entirely drying up.
NFTs peaked on May 3, when $102 million worth were sold in a single day. The crypto-collectibles market made up $100 million of those sales.
But according to data analyzed by Protos, just $19.4 million in NFT sales were processed in the past week.
Overall, $170 million in NFTs were transacted in the seven days surrounding the market’s top — a near-90% collapse.
…is anyone surprised that I love Negan on The Walking Dead? He was an amazing bad guy, with just the right level of cocky swagger to sell that people would follow him. I was fascinated in this clip with how much of that persona was ‘Lucille’. Negan could be violent, and careless about people, but a lot of the swagger, the drawled bluntness was drawn from (the living) Lucille.
Haven’t we all looked into the eyes of our loving pet and seen this? :D
