What’s Up
To be honest not too much is going on this week. Jax graduated with honors (more or less) from his agility class and we’re going kayaking at the weekend! I will update you all with photos next week!
Writing wise I’ve got my nose down and am typing my little fingers down to the bone. I’m going to consult with my editor next week and see what they think the roll out time will be for the book. Once we’ve nailed it down I’ll give you guys a look at the cover! Ooooohhhh!
Actually you should go Ohhhh, it’s a very nice cover :D
Night Shift wise I do have it out with a few foreign publishers, so we’ll see if any are interested! I am also doing the layout for a paperback of the three novellas, released as a collection. So I think that will probably be ready for sometime around Christmas?
Pupdate of the Week
Look at my little graduate! He loved agility and he’s actually really good at it, the only problem is keeping him focused when there are Other People! A Doggo! Holy Crap! A Chicken!
But he did well and he had fun, which is what is important :D
I stand by statement that TikTok is not somewhere to go in order to access the market. It’s too high energy and requires too much engagement UNLESS you are already part of that community. Go in half-assed and you’ll sink like a stone. If you’re going to go hard for the tok though, do it right.
Free Audio Chapter of the Week
‘Tailor Made’ by TA Moore and narrated by Garrett Kiesel is a Prodigium short story and a prequel to Cash in Hand. Find out more about the hidden world of ghouls, ghosties, and long-leggedly beasties — although Grandmother thinks that’s just rude!
Listen to the first chapter now! If you scroll down you can also download the ebook! :D
…This is like all my childhood day dreams come through. You have NO IDEA how many horse books I read, man. The Silver Brumby, ALL the Black Beauties, the Linda Craig mysteries (which was basically Nancy Drew if she had a flipping awesome Palomino horse), and more. If there was a horse or a dog in it, I was there with my money and my sweaty little hands.
Shout Out of the Week
This is one of the last of Aleksandr’s contributions to M/M romance, which is a crying shame! (My twitter based understanding is he’s pivoting to more high fantasy, but will maybe wrap up some loose ends and if he gets a GREAT idea he might dip a toe one day… But not regularly.)
If so it does look like he’s going out on a high. At least for my list of interests/tropes.
‘First he was tied up for interrogation, now he’s tied up for fun’ is one of those taglines that make you mutter darkly under your breath from envy and respect :D
Must Read of the Week
This isn’t research (amnesia stories are just SO HARD to write), but it’s just a beautiful, nuanced, and thoughtful examination of what it means to remember and be remember, of the inevitability of some things.
I literally love this line. It’s so beautiful I want to write it up in fancy print and have it on a wall.
He couldn’t remember our strolls down Brick Lane in our Sunday best or dancing in a field with our friends. He couldn’t remember the joy. And if he couldn’t remember the joy, it may as well have never happened.
Anyhow, you should read it. It’s lovely.
He Couldn’t Remember That We Broke Up
Tyler Wetherall
When my ex injured his brain in a fall and thought we were still together, I had to fill in the gaps.
I used to receive messages like this from my ex-boyfriend: “Did we have a joke about flamingos?” And: “How did I get the scar on my hand?”
They weren’t invitations for a trip down memory lane; he was asking because he couldn’t remember.
This is just interesting!
Ireland is The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne (47 languages!)
Andi Lee has just binged Mind Hunter and reminded me how much I loved the series. Not least because they did AMAZING work on the soundtrack. This was my favorite.
Oh and I am a HUUUUUUGE 9-1-1 Lone Star fan. Judd and Grace are my favorites (I will fight you all! All of you!) but I love all the characters. This, though, was just a brilliantly edited scene that tied all the heat and danger together in a beautiful sequence.
I did think someone was gonna die though! Don’t have characters confess things while in danger, it sets anxiety expectations :D
(That said, if you were gonna give me some more stuff with Paul and his well honed situational awareness? I would not hate that, y’know? Him and Carlos could solve a mystery next season?)
